Happy birthday to us! Girls on the Run Greater Charlotte is 30! 

Thirty years ago, 13 girls gathered at Charlotte Country Day School and started something no one could have imagined.

Now, more than 50,000 girls later, we’re going back to where it all began—including with Molly, who is returning to coach at the very school where she started Girls on the Run.

Through a new $15,000 sponsorship of Girls on the Run Greater Charlotte, CaroMont Health is helping expand opportunities for girls across the Greater Charlotte region to build confidence, develop essential life skills, and prioritize their physical and mental well-being.

More than 2,100 participants crossed the Spring 2026 Girls on the Run 5K finish line — but behind every medal was a story. From moments of joy to stories of strength and healing, this year’s 5K reminded us that Girls on the Run is about so much more than running.

Thirty years ago, Girls on the Run Greater Charlotte took its very first steps at Charlotte Country Day School where a small group of girls laced up their sneakers and began a movement that would impact generations to come. As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, we’re looking back at the little-known story of where it all began.
