Honoring International Day of the Girl

Saturday, October 11 marks International Day of the Girl — a global celebration of girls’ voices, strength, and limitless potential. It’s a day that reminds us exactly why we do what we do at Girls on the Run Greater Charlotte: to help every girl recognize her power, trust her voice, and boldly chase her dreams.

This year, our team took a meaningful (and fun!) trip down memory lane to honor the girls we once were. We shared photos of our 10-year-old selves, reflected on the advice we wish we could give those girls now, and laughed over a few fun facts from that stage of our lives.

Because no matter our age, we’re all still growing — in confidence, kindness, and courage — and we’re better when we grow together.

Daisy IDG

🌼 Daisy — Program and Site Coordinator

“You matter, even when it doesn’t feel like it. Keep choosing kindness, especially when it’s hard — it always makes a difference. Every bit of good you put out comes back around and makes the world, and you, a little better.”

Fun fact: Daisy loved climbing trees, making potions out of dirt and leaves, and running around outside with her siblings.

Adera IDG

🌸 Adera — Marketing & Community Engagement Manager

“Be kind and bold all at once. Never shrink your voice for someone else’s comfort — your softness and strength belong together. The life you dream of is waiting for the version of you who knows she’s worthy of it.”

Fun fact: Adera did ballet and tap dance, loved spending time outside, roller skating, and watching Disney princess movies.

Olivia IDG

🌺 Olivia — Program Development Manager

“It’s okay to make mistakes. You don’t have to be perfect, just be brave enough to try.”

Fun fact: Olivia’s favorite movie was Matilda — a fitting choice for a girl who believed in bravery, learning, and standing up for yourself.

💖 Why International Day of the Girl Matters

At Girls on the Run, we believe every girl deserves to feel confident in who she is and capable of who she’s becoming. International Day of the Girl is a powerful reminder that when girls are supported, encouraged, and given space to grow, there’s no limit to what they can achieve.

Today — and every day — we celebrate girls everywhere and recommit to creating spaces where they feel seen, heard, and empowered.

Because when girls believe in themselves, they change the world.
